Identification and Management of Dispersive Mine Spoils Report (2004)
The aim of this project was to develop, for mine sites with dispersible soils and spoils, procedures to improve the identification and management of these materials. The final report for the ACMER project can be viewed on the ACMER website at: http://www.acmer.uq.edu.au/research/attachments/DispersivespoilsreportfinalJune2004R.pdf

Review of Methods for Water Quality Assessment of Temporary Stream and Lake Systems (2004)
This report reviews the chemical and biological methods available, or being currently investigated, for monitoring the water quality of ephemeral stream and lake systems. A copy of the report, which was sponsored by Anaconda Operations (now Minara Resources), Anglo Coal Australia, AngloGold Ashanti Australia, MIM Holdings (now Xstrata), NSW Department of Mineral Resources, Placer Dome Asia Pacific, and WMC Resources, can be viewed on the ACMER website at: http://www.acmer.uq.edu.au/research/attachments/FinalReportTempWatersSep20042.pdf

Cyanide Management and Use for the Gold Industry (2004) (Four VHS Tape Series)
Following the completion of a series of 6 regional workshops (in late 2003) focussing on cyanide management for the gold industry, sets of 4 videos have been produced and are available for sale at a cost of $143 (inc GST). Topics covered include Cyanide Facts (4 presentations), Risk, Health and Emergency Response (4 presentations), Site Management of Cyanide (4 presentations), and the International Cyanide Management Code (3 presentations). These videos would benefit gold mining companies whose staff were not able to attend the workshops and will assist in raising the awareness of the use and management of cyanide in gold mining operations.

Determination of the Reasons for Deterioration of the Rum Jungle Waste Rock Cover (2003)
The final report for this project, which was undertaken by ANSTO and CSIRO, identifies the importance of considering biotic factors in the design of covers for sulfidic wastes, and will be useful to those designing covers for existing and future operations. The final report can be viewed on the ACMER website at:

Indicators of Ecosystem Rehabilitation Success Stage Two - Verification of EFA Indicators Final Report (2003)

The principal objectives of the project, which was sponsored by 10 mining companies and three government departments, was to verify that previously suggested indicators of ecosystem rehabilitation success, produced by the Ecosystem Function Analysis (EFA) monitoring procedure, properly represented soil properties measured by conventional field and laboratory procedures. The research team for the ACMER project included David Tongway and Norm Hindley (CSIRO Sustainable Ecosystems), Dr David Mulligan and Ben Seaborn (University of Queensland) and Assoc Prof David Jasper (University of Western Australia). The report can be viewed on the ACMER website at:
